A House in the Landscape Naturous Residence

A House in the Landscape

A House in the Landscape is a detached private house built in Pangyo, Republic of Korea. The house is designed to form a balance with its irregular site rather than to stand apart from neighboring buildings. Large continuous windows frame the surrounding nature, following the traditional Korean idea of borrowing scenery. A corridor acts as a transitional space and creates a sequence of changing views. The structure is reinforced concrete. The exterior is finished with old white brick, zinc, western red cedar and broken stone. The reclaimed bricks give a calm and natural texture.

A House in the Landscape Naturous Residence by keun young Shim has been selected as an outstanding illustration of architectural design by the A' Design Award & Competition. A House in the Landscape Naturous Residence was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in Architecture, Building and Structure Design in 2020. The A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award is a juried, academic and highly prestigious design competition that rewards excellent design of skyscrapers, museums, residential buildings, commercial complexes, educational institutions, religious structures, infrastructure designs, landscaping projects and more.
