Senja
Senja is a family cabin built near a small fishing village in northern Norway. The design draws on the Sami tradition of Heller, in which shelters were made under large rocks. The building envelope is shaped like a stone, with lines that follow the nearby mountains, and it holds a large panoramic window facing the landscape. The wooden facade is painted dark grey to blend with the surroundings. The main entrance is carved into the building mass and forms a sheltered outdoor space. Inside, pine walls, oak floors and a slatted wooden ceiling surround a fireplace.
Senja Cabin by Hans-Petter Bjørnådal has been selected as an outstanding representation of architectural design by the A' Design Award. Senja Cabin was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in Architecture, Building and Structure Design in 2021. The A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award is an international, meritocratic, just and fair design recognition program which honors exceptional design of skyscrapers, museums, residential buildings, commercial complexes, educational institutions, religious structures, infrastructure designs, landscaping projects and more.
