Shenzhen Shangsha
Shenzhen Shangsha is a kindergarten located in an urban village in Shenzhen, China. The building holds 18 classes on four floors, with a total construction area of 7304.38 square metres and a height of 16.7 metres. Classrooms follow a straight line layout, while corridors alternate between the north and south sides to create double height spaces. Three canyon like voids are embedded in the form and enclosed by 300 millimetre reinforced concrete folded walls, so sunlight enters at different times of the day. The design adds public space to a dense neighbourhood.
Shenzhen Shangsha Kindergarten by Zhubo Design has been featured as an outstanding example of architectural design by the A' Design Award & Competition. Shenzhen Shangsha Kindergarten earned the Bronze A' Design Award in Architecture, Building and Structure Design in 2024. The A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award is a highly prestigious, international, juried design competition that honors excellent design of skyscrapers, museums, residential buildings, commercial complexes, educational institutions, religious structures, infrastructure designs, landscaping projects and more.
